Castleford to Ferrybridge 18 July 2012

Castleford MooringsThrough the lock and back onto the River Aire

I woke up Sunday and the sun had decided to come out again, so decided to keep moving towards York. I have had a nice few days in Castleford another town I have never visited and the birth place of the sculptor Henry Moore. I can also report it has one of the best fish and Chip Restaurant's I have been to for a long time.

Once again it was back onto the River Aire with plenty of contrasts in scenery. Nice countryside and then the enormous Ferrybridge Power Station and the occasional small village.

I am presently moored in Ferrybridge and at times it does feel like I am on a major shipping route as large barges pass all day loaded with gravel and even the odd tanker.

The good news seems to be that the weather is going to get better towards the end of the month and into August, so with a bit of luck I might be lucky and be able to get up the River Ouse to York without any problem. The idea is to try and be in York by 3 August so that on 4 August I can catch a train to Leeds to go to the second test match against South Africa.
